My hair loss started out as a smooth spot on the back of my head that I noticed a year after giving birth to my son in 1989. Within six months, I had lost every hair on my body and I was terrified! I mainly remember thinking, I'm not going to let this change my otherwise wonderful life. Nothing would hold that much power over me! I bravely started out wearing inexpensive synthetic wigs thinking they would be the most practical for my very active lifestyle. I slowly kept upgrading the quality until I was spending several hundred dollars on each wig. It was better than going bald, but as I kept finding ways to avoid the camera I realized that I didn't feel like "myself" in those wigs. That was somebody else in those photos. Not only that, but the mesh caps were often uncomfortably itchy, and as a certified group exercise instructor, my heavy perspiration caused the toupee tape to "melt" off my head and I could never seem to wash out the sweaty smell. The National Alopecia Areata Convention was held in Chicago one year and I attended it. That's where I discovered the custom made vacuum hairpiece. I had no idea that the natural head of hair I was looking at was actually a wig until it was removed right before my eyes to reveal a head as bald as mine. I was totally amazed! That’s when I decided that I HAD to own one of these magnificent hairpieces. When I discovered that they were also extremely comfortable and secure, I was sold for life. After getting my first piece styled, I looked in the mirror and realized, Karen is back! Self-confidence restored, I was ready to move on with my life, hair loss no longer an issue, the camera no longer an enemy. If you can relate to any part of my story above, I would feel privileged to help guide you through this process of self-restoration. We'll discuss all the elements involved in the custom fit of the vacuum cap, hair and style selection, maintenance and cost. Hey Karen I just wanted to write to you to tell you about my weekend. I went to a wedding and my family saw my hair for the first time and it was wonderful. I had people tell me that I looked beautiful. Not just that my hair looked nice but that it looked beautiful. One of my cousins said I looked like a movie star! I really want reiterate what I said at the salon, it is so much more than I could ever have expected. I just love it and I would recommend the curl pattern, its wonderful. Rachel If you have an older hairpiece that you had repaired and then cut shorter than the one you are currently wearing, here is a great line that my client, Linda came up with for those nosey office workers. I LOVE your sense of humor, Linda!......... "I
have had a lot of compliments on my new wig. I did get the repaired
one trimmed and have been wearing it some. It's funny to hear people
when they come into the office. They will ask me if I got my hair
cut. I say 'Yeah, I did.' It's not a lie. Then when they see me again
(wearing a different wig) they look confused and if they ask I just
tell them I had it cut long this time. Most everyone knows that I
wear a wig but I do think they forget as it is so natural looking." Again, as always, thanks for all your help and support. These pieces have been worth every penny I ever paid for them. I never knew what it was like to have the wind blowing through your hair and not worrying about wefts showing or it coming off till now. To know what it finally feels like to have your own hair after 49 years is priceless to me. "Karen, you are much more than just our Freedom Wig Dealer!
You are a special Angel sent from above to help my daughter with a very difficult lifelong condition. You have shown/modeled for her how to live with Alopecia with dignity, confidence and a strong spirit. We couldn't imagine being on this difficult journey w/o you and Buke!"

"Now that I have my new hair, I feel completely like myself again. I don't feel it on my head and can wear it easily from when I get ready in the morning until bedtime. No more "hair hat!" I've worn it to the gym, in the shower, during "sexy time" with my husband, and in all kinds of other situations. It's just a God send for me." Karen, Karen- Hi
Karen, Hi

Hi Karen, Hi
Karen, I just wanted to let you know, how much
I love my new hair. I feel so confident and beautiful. I
have much more of a positive attitude. I now
enjoy going to the mall, and spending the day out. My
hair is very easy to take care of .. I love it!! Having
my new hair has given me my life back. Karen, thank
you for all your support. "Hi
Karen - I'm back on-line and just wanted to let you know how happy
I am with my new hair. It's so comfortable and soft! I'm not wearing
it yet fully this week because of the work situation, but will
be doing so when I come home every night this week and will graduate
completely to my new hair as of this Saturday. I dread putting
that synthetic piece back on for work this week!!! Thanks much
for everything, Karen. I wish I could be as open as you are about
your alpoecia, but I guess I just lived with too much criticism
and ridicule about my problem for way too long. Being in a beauty
salon yesterday was a totally new experience for me and I was honestly
very nervous! Maybe because I've now seen that there's other women
in the world like myself and I'm no longer alone, I don't need
to live in embarrassment and shame any longer. It's just going
to take some time, but maybe now because I found you and New Life
Hair, I'll finally get the courage to talk about this thing and
be able to help others.
As for our trip to Hawaii ...it was great! I did just fine with snorkeling, even in deep water. Since Hawaii can be windy, I did use a hat sometimes, but otherwise, no problems. We even hiked to a waterfall, and down a mountainside, and I never felt as if there was a threat to my head. In fact we had so much fun, we are going back next summer, and taking my son. If anyone thinks this type of wig is too hot, tell them that I've found it to be less warm than a synthetic wig, and very light and natural. It's the best us baldies can hope for and as close to ‘homegrown’ hair as you can get. I also love the fact that I can cook again without being afraid of the heat. |
